Internet Service Upgrade
The station internet service has been upgraded from ADSL2+ to VDSL2 (FTTC). This has resulted in numerous reboots of the router, with consequent changes to IP address, whilst line training is taking place. Each change of IP address breaks the connection to the website server, which has to be manually reset, sometimes taking a little while.
No data is lost when this occurs but the website freezes until the link is reset. Archives are complete.

Storm Darcy, dubbed 'Beast from the East 2', brings snow and biting winds
Storm Darcy, dubbed 'Beast from the East 2', brings snow and biting winds. Heavy snow and icy conditions have hit parts of the UK, as strong easterly winds from Ukraine and the Black Sea sweep across the country.
The Met Office has issued amber weather warnings for snow in parts of London, the east and southeast of England, stretching from Norwich to Canterbury.
A second wave affected the North East later in the week, leading to snowfall over most of the UK during the storm. Bitterly cold north-easterly winds remain strong as well, with gusts around 40-50mph along eastern coasts, and between 30-40mph inland in the east, which means blizzard conditions are still likely over these areas and significant drifting of lying snow.
The easterly winds originating from eastern Europe are not predicted to be bitingly cold as the 'Beast from the East' back in 2018.

Storm Bella
A Yellow warning for wind for the whole of England and Wales as well as the far south of Scotland has been issued and will be in force from 15:00 on 26 December to 12:00 on 27 December.

The strong south-westerly winds will develop across parts of northern England and the far south of Scotland on Saturday afternoon, before transferring south-eastwards across the rest of England and Wales into Sunday morning, clearing by early Sunday afternoon.

Inland gusts of 50-60 mph are likely, with the potential for 60-70 mph in some locations. Hills and coasts exposed to the south-westerly winds could see gusts of 70-80 mph.

Data recording irregularity
At around 12:00 on the 25th, it was noticed that the two consoles were recording different Solar Intensity, Wind Speed and External Temperature. This is an effect of the transmitter battery becoming low and consequent weak signals at the Main console. As a result, until Storm Bella has passed, readings will be unpredictable. After the storm, the battery will be replaced and the data restored from the back console which is much closer to the transmitter and still capturing data from the weak signal. There is a short data corruption whilst the battery was replaced and the consoles realigned.
It has subsequently been found that the consoles have failed and a third has been put into service. There is now no backup console.

- Setting SynceFOReads = 1 to synchronise memory reading
- Setting EWdisablecheckinit = 1 and EWduplicatecheck = 1 to closer emulate Easyweather working.

Storm Francis to bring strong winds and heavy rain
A deep area of low pressure will cross the UK from Monday night, bringing wind gusts of 60 mph and potentially 70 mph in exposed western locations and also heavy rain for many. A yellow wind warning is in force for the whole of Wales and most of England until midday on Wednesday.
Whilst not exceptional, winds this strong are unusual for August and they will be accompanied by some heavy rain in places, with possible transport disruption and impacts on outdoor activities. Large waves are also expected in coastal areas around the South West including the Bristol Channel, throughout Tuesday, moving along the English Channel as the day progresses. Beachgoers are advised to take extra care.
The rain is expected to be heaviest in Northern Ireland and south west Scotland where 60-90 mm in total could fall as the storm moves from west to east.
Storm Francis will clear to the East of the UK by Wednesday lunchtime, leaving a brighter and more settled outlook for the remainder of the day.
From 19/08/20 20:00 to 22/08/20 12:00.

Storm Ellen
Following on from last week's heatwave, much of the UK can expect a spell of wet and windy weather as Storm Ellen sweeps north across Ireland on Wednesday night before dominating the weather for the rest of the week.
Met Eireann named Storm Ellen on Tuesday evening, as the unseasonably, deep Atlantic low-pressure system brings the potential for impacts to the Republic of Ireland.
Met Office Chief Meteorologist, Steve Ramsdale said: 'Following the recent hot and thundery weather we are seeing a significant change to very unsettled conditions for August with an unseasonal spell of strong winds associated with low-pressure centres for the second half of the week'.
'Uncertainty remains high in the intensity of these systems at this point, but we are confident in the change to a spell of much windier weather. Tropical air associated with a decayed tropical cyclone is being drawn towards the UK, and the marked contrast between this warm and moist air with normal North Atlantic airmasses can lead to a very vigorous system.'
The Met Office has issued a wind warning for western parts of the UK from 8.00pm on Wednesday until 23:59pm on Thursday. Strong winds are forecast for this area (East Midlands/East Anglia) throughout Friday.

The console batteries have been recently changed, so it's unlikely that was the problem. A seperate d.c. feed to the console has been installed to attempt to alleviate the problem.
